• Norstedts was founded in 1823 and is Sweden’s oldest publishing house, but also with the ambition to be the most modern. We have designed a contemporary office environment in a historic building comprising a total 2,000 sqm of workspace and service functions.

• In times of transition from print to digital media, we chose the physical book as a main theme for the design – it is constantly present as a unifying design element that shapes the spaces. The existing furniture is combined with selected vintage furniture pieces and custom-made fittings. In collaboration with conservation expertise, we have highlighted and refined the character of the original building, whose oldest parts are from the 19th century. The result is a work environment with great spatial variation, while being cohesive throughout the whole building.

  The project includes a study of connections and forms of collaboration across teams on separate floors. Office spaces are divided between large rooms, individual offices and activity-based workplaces.

  There are twelve individually decorated meeting rooms, each of which has been given a name and unique character by an author or literary figure. In addition, we designed a reception, dining room, café, break areas and kitchenettes.
