Housing refurbishment, Farsta

  • We are renovating two listed buildings designed by Björn Hedvall and built in 1958-1959 by Togo Danielsson as 'solid buildings for ordinary people'. Working closely with a new generation of Danielssons, the 105 apartments are being brought up to modern standards while retaining their original qualities.

    • Status: Under construction
    • Team: Benjamin Mandre, Rodrigo Yañez, Serafim Aphram
    • Size: 105 apartments, basements, attic storage, laundry rooms etc, app. 10,000 sqm
    • Contractor: BRA Bygg AB
    • Lighting consultant: Black Ljusdesign
    • Landscape and gardening: AddGreen

  • The project has involved extensive research to restore the buildings and homes to as close to their original condition as possible. Original door millwork is carefully hand painted. The front door handle is a model produced by Tekaverken until around 1960. Windows and curtain wall panels is replaced, according to Björn Hedvall's original drawings, which we found in the archives. Great attention is also paid to window details such as glazing beads, frame mouldings and fittings.

  • Cabinets, doors and windows are refurbished and fitted with replicas of the original knobs and handles. Existing installations were built into the construction and difficult to access. Therefore, each apartment is now fitted with a matching installation cabinet to house the plumbing, power distribution and internet connection. Oak floors are replaced with similar "Dutch pattern" floors, typical of the time.
