Affordable housing, Möja

  • A new settlement is planned on Stora Möja island in the Stockholm archipelago. Two rows of terraced houses are placed on a hill north-west of the church. The proposal preserves the typical archipelago nature of shrubs and rocky outcrops, and the ambition is to intervene in nature as little as possible.

    • Status: Feasibility study, 2021
    • Size: 20 homes
    • Team: Fabian Wanqvist, Benjamin Mandre, Rodrigo Yañez
    • Client:
      Möjaskärgårdens företagarförening
  • The houses follow the plot's height differences. It is accessed by vehicle via a gravel road that connects northwards to an existing road. No communal parking is provided, but vehicles can be parked along the roadway.

  • The design of the houses is based on traditional timber construction and will be simple two-storey terraced houses. The buildings form a shared, sunlit courtyard around the hillside, where there is space to play or socialise with neighbours. Each house has a private terrace facing the evening sun in the west. Large barn doors can be opened to protect from the neighbours' view.

  • The houses accommodate about 20 homes and are designed for rational construction. The larger wing provides space for communal areas such as storage, bicycle parking or a workshop.
